A warm, dark combination is Ultramarine Blue and Burnt Umber.

My palette is always set up -- fresh paint -- I use a base of foam core covered with a thick piece of shatterproof glass (my mixing area can be easily scraped clean every day when my work is completed.) I cover the leftover paints with plastic wrap.

Starting with the Permalba White, I work from left to right in an arc around the mixing area -- from light to dark.
